Meredith is located on the Midland Highway approximately half way between Ballarat and Geelong, amidst a large agricultural district.
It developed adjacent the Coolebarghurk Creek in the 1850s on the gold route to townships such as Buninyong, Ballarat, Bendigo & Steigltz. It can claim a place amongst the oldest towns in the state of Victoria.
Today it is a small centre, still attracting many travellers.
