It was interesting to read about the history of the town. I recently visited the town as my great grandmother was born there and was surprised to see so many of my ancestors in the cemetery. My great gandmother was a Grenfell.

My Family Members have told me that the township of Meredith could be named after a family member of ours?
My great grandfather Gilbert Victor Meredith (25/41885 to 22/12/1967) or
great great Grandfather Joseph Meredith ( born in BORT Police station ) was a policeman in Meredith around 1901,
my pa had all his Police goods in a suitcase and when my pa died my mum found them and
donated all these treasured goods to the police museum in Victoria…..
Can U please shead any light as to if this rumour is correct or not… Whho is the Town Meredith Named After

Family history says Emily WATSON, b 1852, my children's G-g-grandmother, was 'the first white child born at Meredith'. Her father was an 'engineer' and a 'contractor'. Was fascinated to see on your great website that there was a Watson's hotel.

I've traveled Aussie and have to say Meredith cafe is home of the best home made sausage rolls in Australia! i strongly suggest a trip for a taste of the finest.

I'm sure the Golden Plains Shire will create a similar website for their favourite township "Bannockburn" in the near future. This will of course be fully funded by council. :)
